Periodontal Treatment

Periodontal disease, also known as periodontitis,  is a fairly wide spread disease today.

Periodontitis is an inflammation of the gums and the jaw bone with far-reaching consequences for the entire body.

The treatment of periodontal disease will be performed by using special instruments such as curettes or an ultra sonic device. The tooth surface below the gums (pockets) will be cleaned from bacteria and smoothened.

There are several treatment approaches to complete this procedure. In our practice, we prefer the minimally invasive treatment of gum disease without cutting and stitching, the so-called "closed curettage". The curettage is performed under local anesthesia so that no pain is to be expected.

Some discomfort and slight bleeding as a result of the scraping instruments on the tooth may be expected. Up to 6 days after treatment the gums may still be sensitive.

The procedure can be repeated after a while, if necessary.

Yes, this treatment is worth it, because healthy gums are a guarantee for long lasting fillings, tooth restorations and dental prosthetics.
